This is a four day residential retreat for people who are new to mindfulness as well as those with some mindfulness experience.
The course is at the beautiful Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre, one hour from Nelson in the Kahurangi National Park.

Mindfulness brings calm and clarity to the mind. It is about building a skill set to work with challenging emotions and stressful environments. Modern life is often busy with many demands for attention both at work and at home. Mindfulness addresses this situation by contacting and deepening the capacity for calm, as calm deepens we naturally begin to feel more spacious, creative, confident. The brain and body are rewired to become less reactive and more responsive, put simply, the person who is mindful (self aware) has more options.
Why attend a retreat? Attending a retreat provides the opportunity to boost your practice of mindfulness. Retreats really help with motivation and skills to practice at home. On retreat distractions are reduced, practice is deepened through the presence of a supportive group, the natural environment, clear/insightful teaching and healthy food.
Jaime is a graduate of a three year mindfulness study and retreat based in the Southern alps of New Zealand. He has been studying and practicing mindfulness daily for over fifteen years and has a Masters Degree in Education. He has and continues to train with some of the best mindfulness teachers in the world.
Jaime is the founder and director of Opening Minds and creator of Calm Clear Creative a programme that teaches mindfulness to children, teachers, parents and organisations. In this role Jaime helped Grant Rix develop the Mindful Aotearoa, a nationwide mindfulness in schools project offered by the Mental Health Foundation. He is a trained MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) teacher and an assistant director for the Tracks Rite of Passage Event. Jaime is currently living and practicing at the Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre while training to teach Open Floor, a music, movement mindfulness based therapy.
A Typical day on retreat. There will be structured guidance, space to explore the natural environment and plenty of time to relax. Jaime will introduce opportunities to practice in groups and alone to help craft a habit of mindfulness that you can take back into your lives. The classes will be fun, practical, inspiring.
7am Morning meditation 30 - 40 mins guided
9am morning class, practical exercises, supportive group explorations led by Jaime
11am Time to integrate, walk, rest, explore
12.30 Healthy lunch and rest period
2.30 Afternoon class/exploration together led by Jaime followed by time for integrating

Arrive Friday by 5pm if possible, soup and welcome at 6pm. Make sure you know the way, Jo the caretaker can help with this. The first rite of passage is getting there!
Finish Tuesday at 13.30 after lunch.
